Athletics celebrate Academic Achievement for Spring Semester

WHITTIER, Calif. - The Whittier College Athletic Department and Executive Director of Athletics Robert Coleman have recognized the teams and athletes from the 2012 spring semester that have exemplified tremendous success within the classroom.

“We are extremely proud of the extraordinary and continued academic performance of our student-athletes,” said Coleman.  “In particular, I applaud the individuals who continue to excel in the classroom and on the playing field.”  These outstanding combined results remain a by-product of the diligent efforts of the fine young men and women in our program, as well as the daily contributions by our coaches, Center for Advising and Academic Success and Whittier’s quality faculty.  We look forward in honoring our top cumulative performers from the spring semester of ’12 during the 2013 President’s Club Luncheon that will take place next spring.

Leading the way for the men’s sports with an overall G.P.A. of a 3.16 was men’s soccer followed closely by men’s tennis with a 3.14 and men’s swimming & diving with a 2.93.

On the women’s side, tennis emerged at the top spot with an overall G.P.A. of a 3.39 followed right behind by cross country who finished with a 3.26.  Wrapping up the teams who finished with a 3.0 or higher included track & field (3.19), lacrosse (3.12), soccer (3.04), swimming & diving (3.04), and volleyball (3.0).

In total there were eight teams that had an overall team G.P.A. of a 3.0 or higher, while three teams combined for an overall 2.9 G.P.A.
