Poets receive $10,000 grant from Edison International
WHITTIER, Calif. - Whittier College has received a grant of $10,000 from Edison International to support two key programs: The Martin Ortiz Programs and the Purple and Gold.
Purple & Gold (P&G) is the primary support group for men’s and women’s athletics at Whittier College. P&G provides extra funds for special athletic needs such as travel expenses for out-of-state tournaments, training equipment, facility improvements, shoes, awards, and other items to enhance our men’s and women’s athletic programs. Annual contributions help support all 21 intercollegiate athletic teams, involving nearly one-third of the men and women who are students at the College.
The Ortiz Programs were established as a formal and separate program within the Cultural Center at Whittier College to address the specific needs of Latino students. By encouraging their academic success and cultivating their leadership abilities, the Ortiz Programs serve to aid in student retention and completion.
The $10,000 is to be split up between the programs with $6,000 going towards the Martin Ortiz Programs, while the other $4,000 will go towards the Purple & Gold.
