Theresa Acosta is in her first year as the head Athletic Trainer for Whittier College. She brings over 10 years of experience to the Poets as he has served at places such as John Jay College of Criminal Justice, the University of Detroit Mercy and the University of North Texas among other places.

Before she joined the Poet staff Acosta was the head Athletic Trainer at John Jay College from 2005 to 2008. She supervised the 12 NCAA Division III teams and also oversaw the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

In 2004 she was the Assistant Director of Sports Medicine at the University of Detroit Mercy and she also worked as the Athletic Trainer/Rehabilitation Specialist at Harris Health Trends, Inc. Rehabilitative Service at General Motors. While at Detroit Mercy she was the head trainer for women's basketball and tennis and also assisted with all 11 NCAA Division 1 teams.

Acosta graduated from the University of North Texas in 1999 with a Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology and earned her Master's of Science in Kinesiology in 2001 from North Texas. She was a graduate assistant for the Mean Green from 1999-2001 and after she graduated she was promoted to Assistant Athletic Trainer where she served from 2001 to 2003.

The San Antonio, Texas, native was also a member of the Detroit Shock organization in 2002 and 2003. The Shock won the WNBA Championship in 2003 while Acosta was the head Equipment Manager and Assistant Athletic Trainer.

In addition to all her duties in the States she also worked as the Athletic Trainer for the Federation of Futsal (Indoor Soccer Independent League) in 2007 in Mexico City, Mexico, the City University of New York Goodwill Tour (men's soccer) in 2006 in Cape Town and Johannesburg, South Africa, and the Sports Federation of Missions (basketball and volleyball) in 1998 in Taichung, Taiwan.

Acosta is a licensed and certified athletic trainer.
