Baseball loses lead to Greensboro, Chapman '10 allows one run in five innings

Kevin Chapman '10 allowed one earned run on
five hits and struck out five batters in five innings pitched, but
Greensboro College came from behind to the Poets 7-5 on February 4
at Memorial Baseball Field. The loss drops the Poets' record
to 0-4.
Robbie Smith '08 went 2-for-4 on the day with an
RBI and a double. Ty Crawford '07 was
2-for-2 with a double. Ryan Martin '08 hit a
solo home run (1) and Bobby Wooldridge '08 and
Lorenzo Lopez '09 each drove in a run.
Scot Kakuk '08 (0-1) was credited with the loss
after pitching two-thirds of an inning and allowing two runs, one
earned and walking two in the top of the ninth inning.
The Poets got on the scoreboard first, with Martin's solo home
run in the bottom of the first. Greensboro answered back with
a run to tie the score in the top half of the third inning and took
the lead with another run in the sixth. The score was 2-2
going into the eighth inning, when Greensboro added two runs in the
top half, followed by the Poets taking a 5-4 lead with three runs
in the bottom of the eighth. In the top of the ninth, the
Poets walked the bases loaded and hit a batter to bring home the
tying run. Two fielding errors brought home two more runs for
Greensboro to give them a 7-5 lead. Looking for a final
inning rally, the Poets left two men on base in the ninth
inning. Whittier left 12 men on the base paths in the
game.
The Poets are on the road for their next contest at Azusa Pacific
University on February 6. First pitch is scheduled for 6pm.
