Two Baseball Players Recognized With Post Season Awards

Two Poets baseball players earned post season honors from the
West Region and SCIAC for their performances throughout the 2008
season. Chuck Acker '08 earned a West Region Gold Glove as a
center fielder as well as first team All-SCIAC honors.
Anthony Cappelletti '09 was also a first team All-SCIAC honoree
after terrorizing opposing pitchers in his first season of
collegiate baseball.
Acker received an overwhelming number of votes as a Gold Glove
winner. He posted a .992 fielding percentage in center field
as the anchor of the Poet defense. In the SCIAC, he finished
the season among the top five in three offensive categories.
He was first in sacrifice bunts with 12, second in stolen bases
with 19 and third in runs scored with 50. He started all 40
games this season after returning from a knee injury that ended his
2007 campaign. He hit .336 with five home runs and 26
RBI.
Cappelletti joined the Poets squad in 2008 and didn't miss a stride
despite two years off from baseball. He was among the top
five in the conference in five offensive categories: hits
(3rd, 64), RBI (3rd, 53), home runs
(3rd, 11), walks (3rd, 25) and total bases
(4th, 113). He led the team with a .427 batting
average (minimum 50 at-bats), home runs and RBI. His 64 hits
on the year was just two shy of the all-time record.
The Poets were 15-24-1 overall this season and 8-13 in SCIAC play.
