Cappelletti named ABCA/Rawlings All-American

WHITTIER, Calif. - The American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings announced its 2009 Division III All-American teams on Friday, May 22, and Anthony Cappelletti put an exclamation point on his senior season as he garnered a spot on the third-team.

Cappelletti led the Poets in virtually every offensive category as he batted .439 with an on-base percentage of .503 and a slugging percentage of .811.

He ranked 31st in the country in total bases with 120 and was only behind ABCA/Rawlings National Co-Player of the Year Drew Hedman (Pomona-Pitzer) in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The two-time first-team All-SCIAC selection (2008 and 2009) played in and started 39 games and collected 65 hits with 17 doubles, 10 homeruns and four triples. He drove in 42 runs, scored 48 times and was a perfect 6-of-6 on stolen bases.

The San Diego, Calif., native and Hedman were the only two All-American selections from the SCIAC

Cappelletti was also honored by Whittier College and the Purple & Gold Club as one of two Male Team Sport Athletes of the Year.
