Whittier receives generous $50,000 for new dugouts

WHITTIER, Calif. - The Whittier College Athletics Department and the baseball program received a gift to the tune of $50,000 earlier this week. Athletic Director Robert Coleman announced that the main use for the money will go towards new dugouts at Memorial Baseball Field.

The baseball field received a facelift in the summer of 2008 and also received the new electronic scoreboard that sits down the leftfield line.

The new dugouts are just one part of the larger picture for the renovations that will be done to Memorial Field. Whittier is also looking to add landscaping to the area underneath the scoreboard, a padded backstop, an irrigation system to the outfield and, eventually, a press box.

The proposed start date for the renovation to the dugouts is early August.
