REDLANDS, Calif. – The Whittier College baseball team and senior right hander Ryan Schwenn have done it again winning their eighth straight game cruising to the 10-3 victory over the Bulldogs of the University of Redlands Saturday afternoon.

Schwenn pitched 8.0 innings giving up three runs on eleven hits to go with four strikeouts earning his ninth win on the season and gave way to Mike Rueda the Poet closer in the ninth who secured the victory.

On the opposite side Adam Byrd lasted 4.0 innings surrendering six runs (1 earned) on six hits, while his relievers went 4.3 innings of work giving up a combined four runs on 10 hits.

Despite giving up only one earned run, the Bulldogs fell behind by four early after Whittier capitalized off of two errors in the top of the third.  In the ensuing inning Whittier pushed two more runs across the plate to extend their lead to 6-0 behind a sacrifice fly from Alex Mitchell and a single from Andrew Vallejo

But Redlands rallied and cut the Poet lead to three after they put up a three spot in the bottom half of the fourth behind six singles capped off by Poet centerfielder Tyler Bogart gunning out Scheiwe who was trying to push a Hancock single into extra bases getting thrown out at third base stopping the Redlands rally.

But after that half inning Schwenn buckled down and retired the Bulldogs over the next four innings stranding a pair and surrendering a mere two hits.

Later on in the game Whittier added insurance runs, which included two in the seventh and two in ninth behind an Austin Straus double down the right field line and then back to back singles from Straus and Nick Amicone that put the game out of reach.

Straus finished the game 2-3 with four RBI's, while Vallejo got his bat going once again finishing 3-5 with two runs scored and two runs batted in.  Senior catcher Amicone also had a breakout game following his 3-5 performance against Claremont-M-S from Friday with a 4-5 effort with a run batted in.

Whittier looks to extend their winning streak to nine as they return to action against La Verne on Friday, April 27 at Mt. SAC with game time set for 3:00pm.
