WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Football Homecoming Game/Senior Day, slated to be played this Saturday, October 28 at 5:00pm against Occidental College, has been cancelled.
The cancelation stems from Occidental who decided to cancel the rest of its 2017 football season , which includes a total of four Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference games. "Daily discussions with coaches and training staff have led Occidental's senior leadership and coaches to conclude that the health of the roster has not and will not improve to the point where the college can safely field a team for the remainder of this season."
"We are all disappointed by the cancellation of this game especially for the seniors on our team," Executive Director of Athletics Robert Coleman explained. "However, we will make sure to celebrate their achievements at a football event following the conclusion of the season."
Other events and festivities set to take place for Homecoming Weekend will go on as planned with the exception of Men's Soccer who will now host Cal Lutheran University on Saturday, October 28 at 5 p.m. in Memorial Stadium.
