WHITTIER, Calif. – After a tough opening weekend loss to NAIA's No. 22 Firestorm of Arizona Christian University, the Whittier College Football team sets their sights on the Northwest Conference as they welcome in the Pioneers of Lewis & Clark University this Saturday, September 15.

WC Coming into the Game
On Saturday, the Poets fell 67-42 to No. 22 Arizona Christian University totaling 434 yards of total offense.  Junior quarterback Miguel Avina combined for 299 yards and six touchdowns (4 throwing and 2 rushing).  Special Teams kicker Cooper Allen was named SCIAC Athlete of the Week for Special Teams after going 6-for-6 on extra points, while averaging 38.8 yards per punt, which included two landing inside the 20.

L&C Coming into the Game
The Pioneers opened up 2018 at home Saturday against Pomona-Pitzer and fell 34-21.  They totaled 383 yards of total offense with 343 yards coming in the air and 40 on the ground.  They had 20 first downs and held the advantage on possession time with 37:28 to Pomona's 22.25.  They were 6-of-17 on third down and totaled 78 plays on offense.
