Bill O'Boyle has coached collegiate football for two decades and 2008 marked his second season with the Whittier College football program. The 2009 season will be his first year as the offensive coordinator for the Poets.

O'Boyle was hired in 2007 as the linebackers coach and in 2008 he was promoted to Associate Head Coach and Director of Football Operations.

Under his tutelage as the linebackers coach O'Boyle has placed three Poets on the All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference first and second team. In 2008 Brandon Boehm garnered as spot on the second-team and in 2007 Arlo Castelo and Jared Izidoro were honored as first and second-team members, respectively.

O'Boyle began his coaching career in 1988 as the defensive line coach for National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics member Dana College. He served five years as a member of the Vikings football staff and graduated from Dana in 1990 with a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education.

In 1993 he was hired on the staff of Division II St. Cloud State. O'Boyle was there for two years where he coached the defensive line, defensive ends and linebackers.

O'Boyle returned to the NAIA in 1995 with Hastings College. From ‘95 to 1996 he was the defensive line coach and in 1997 he was promoted to defensive coordinator. In 1998 he helped the Broncos to a No. 1 national ranking. Hastings entered the 1999 and 2000 season as the preseason No. 3 team in the country. His defenses consistently ranked in the Top 10 in several defensive statistical categories.

In his final season with Hastings O'Boyle was honored by the American Football Coaches Association as the NAIA National Assistant Coach of the Year.

O'Boyle joined the SCIAC in 2001 as the defensive coordinator/recruiting coordinator of the University of Redlands. He stayed in that position until 2005 when he became the offensive coordinator for the next two years.

He saw the Bulldogs reach the NCAA Division III Playoffs in 2002 and 2003.

As the defensive coordinator he coached 11 first-team All-SCIAC defensive players which includes the 2002 Defensive Player of the Year, Jeff Thomas. He also placed another 11 athletes on the All-SCIAC second-team defense. O'Boyle had seven student-athletes named to the All-SCIAC offense during his two seasons as offensive coordinator.

Since 1993 O'Boyle has worked numerous summer football camps and NFL training camps.

O'Boyle currently resides in Whittier with his two dogs, Tess and Tsar.
