2007-08 Poets Golf Overview

The Whittier College golf program is under new direction with the addition of Richard Kim to the Poets coaching staff.  His task will be to rebuild a Poets golf team that finished in seventh place in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference last season.  Whittier plays in the toughest conference in all of Division III with national powerhouses La Verne, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Reclands all ranking in the top ten nationally.

The 2007 Poets picked up a pair of non-conference wins against La Sierra, beating the Golden Eagles 341-383 at home, then again less than a week later, 322-332 in Riverside, Calif.  The Poets' best conference finishes were in the SCIAC's third and fifth events, where Whittier finished in sixth.  In the third conference event at Los Serranos, the Poets shot a team total 333, and were led by senior Wes Carty who shot a three over par, 77, good for 17th place in the event.  Senior Tim Fanning shot an 83 and finished in 32nd

The Poets play their home matches at Candlewood Country Club in Whittier, Calif., and will be hosting the 2008 SCIAC Championships.
