Poets open season with a pair of wins

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Whittier College golf team opened up its season on February 13 at General Old Golf Course against La Sierra, Occidental and a club team from the University of Southern California and came away with the low score of the day to earn the win.

The Poets shot a 326 as they were led by Andrew Moreno-Hunt who shot an eight over par 80. Ryan Kitabayashi and Michael Amarilla both had scores of 81 for the day.

The purple and gold braved the elements as the wind chill made it near 30 degrees. La Sierra managed a 379 while Occidental scored a 326 but had a lost card.

The Poets return to action on February 17 as they take part in the first SCIAC tournament at Brookside Country Club in Pasadena, Calif.
