Karl played college golf at Mt. San Antonio College where he was first-team all South Coast Conference in 1999 and 2000; and was the South Coast Conference MVP in 2000 when he led the conference with a 70.4 scoring average.

After Mt. San Antonio College, Karl attended University of La Verne where he was a first-team all SCIAC selection in 2001 along with a first-team all District VI. At NCAA championships in St. Louis, Karl turned in low score for the team and was the only member of the squad to post all four rounds in the 70's.

Karl then served as Head Golf Professional and Tournament Director at El Prado Golf Courses in Chino for five years, before starting his own business of tournament operations and golf instruction.

When not playing golf or teaching, Karl enjoys spending time with his children and reading Stephen King novels.
