Travis Crow '09 scored a game-high 25 points, but Whittier College lost 81-80 to NAIA opponent, Holy Names University in the Graham Athletics Center on November 20.  The loss evens the Poets record to 1-1 overall.

Crow made all seven shots he took from the field, including a pair of three-pointers, and was 9-for-10 from the charity stripe.   Mike Archuletta '09 scored 15 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds in just 17 minutes of action off the bench.  Marcus Gibson '09 scored 12 points on four three-pointers and Jeff McLean '09 pitched in with ten points and six rebounds.  Vernon Covington '08 pulled down seven boards and was credited with a game-high five assists.

Holy Names was led by Josh Dozier, who had game-highs with 25 points and twelve rebounds.  Jonathan Kargas scored 17 for the Hawks, including the game-winning three-pointer with nine seconds remaining in the game.  He was 4-for-4 from beyond the arc.  Nicholas Bailey and Troy Cotton scored 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Both teams shot well from the field; the Poets shot 49%, while Holy Names shot 46% and torched the nets at 57% in the second half.  The Hawks held a slight edge in turnovers, forcing 25 from the Poets while committing 21 themselves.  Despite a slight height disadvantage, the Poets won the battle on the glass, out rebounding their opponents 40-30.

The Poets are in action again on November 26, when they travel to Southern California rival La Sierra University.  The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30pm.
