Poets Suffer Second Loss to an NAIA Opponent, Covington '08 Scores team-high 11 points

A slow start hindered the Poets in their 59-45 loss to Biola
University in La Mirada, Calif., on December 4. Biola, the
second NAIA team the Poets have lost to this season, started the
game with a 9-0 run and were up by as many as 17 in the first half
as the Eagles drop the Poets' record to 3-2 this season.
The Poets struggled to score throughout the game, shooting just 26%
from the field. Only Vernon Covington '08 and Mike Archuletta
'09 broke double figures in the scoring column with eleven and ten
points, respectively. Jeff McLean '09 led the Poets
defensively with six steals and a blocked shot. Bill Ritter
'08 provided a spark off the bench with two consecutive baskets, a
three-pointer and a lay-up, for five points in just seven minutes
of play.
The Biola big men dominated the contest. Danny Jones and
Rocky Hampton combined for 35 points and 27 rebounds. The
Eagles held a distinct advantage on the glass, out rebounding the
Poets 49-31.
The Poets face another NAIA opponent in their next game on December
8. They take on Master's College at 7:30pm in the Graham
Athletics Center. The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is
also hosting its second annual "Dress Like Santa Night" at the
game. Show up in your best holiday costumes for a chance at
great prizes.
