WHITTIER, Calif. – Whittier College Head Men's Basketball coach Mark Jensen collected his first collegiate win Sunday night as the Poets rolled College of New Rochelle 101-69 inside of the Graham Athletic Center.

The Purple & Gold ended their three game losing skid as they move to 1-3 on the season.  The Blue Angels were coming off a tough loss to Chapman University the night before and found themselves matched up against a deep Poet lineup.

15 Poets found the floor with five players landing in double digits as Whittier poured in at least 100 points for the second time this season.

Whittier trailed early 16-7 but caught right back up quickly sparked by sophomore Ryan Henry (Fontana, Calif.) who caught fire from deep connecting on four consecutive triples and a jumper, adding up to his own 14-0 run giving WC a 21-16 lead.

The Blue Angels tried to rebound quickly but an ensuing 9-2 run capped off with a layup and three-pointer from Conner Longmire (Tarzana, Calif.) would stretch the lead to double digits.  Longmire kept his own run going with a couple free throws and another layup soon after, adding up to nine straight.

With 3:07 to play in the first half, Victor Nwaba (Los Angeles, Calif.) added a layin that pushed the lead to 45-33 and Louis Kurihara (Culver City, Calif.) would add a jumper that gave the Poets a 12-point advantage at the break.

It got worse for New Rochelle in the second half getting outscored by twenty and seeing the Purple & Gold add a season high 54 point period.  Reggie Dixon (Oxnard, Calif.) poured in 13 points on 3-4 shooting in just 11 minutes with a number of subs getting quality minutes.

Whittier shot 47% from the field and a 33% clip from behind the arc, while winning the rebounding effort 56-44.  They added 32 points in the paint and 62 points from the bench, while earning 31 points off turnovers.

Henry led the Poets with 18 points off the bench on 5-8 shooting, going 4-5 from deep and a perfect 4-4 from the charity stripe.  Longmire tossed in 16 points with four rebounds and four steals and Dixon added 15.  From the starters, Kurihara added 12 points with five boards and Nwaba totaled a strong stat line of 11 points with three assists and six boards.

Whittier hits the road for a non-conference bout this Wednesday, November 29 as they travel to take on Division I UC Irvine beginning at 7:00pm.
