  • Louis Kurihara ’18 Signs with Shinshu Brave Warriors

    Former Whittier College basketball player Louis Kurihara (Culver City, Calif.) has signed to play professionally with the Shinshu Brave Warriors in the Japanese city of Chikuma. Kurihara is headed to Japan after a four-year career with the Poets in which he started almost every game he played in, racked up nearly 1000 points and was selected to the All-SCIAC 2nd Team his senior year. Highlighting his career was a pair of game winning shots down the stretch to get the Poets into post-season contention. During his time at Whittier Kurihara was a vital part of two post-season playoff berths.

  • Nick Demusis ‘16 Enjoys Success as a Professional in Thailand

    Former Whittier College standout Nick DeMusis ‘16 just finished his first year of professional basketball with the Nakorn Mad Goats of the Thailand Basketball Super League. Demusis spent two seasons with the Purple and Gold after transferring from Miles Community College (MT) back in 2013, and wasted no time putting up big numbers (17ppg as a Junior and 20ppg as a Senior), while leading the Poets to a post season tournament berth in his final season. He was also named a unanimous first team All SCIAC performer his senior year and Honorable Mention All-West Region for NCAA Division III.

    Recent Whittier College graduate Jordan Lingard ‘18 who was a member of the Men’s Basketball team for the past two seasons moved back to Australia and has signed with the Warrnambool Seahawks.

    For the first time in his career senior guard Louis Kurihara (Culver City, Calif.) has received recognition on an All-SCIAC team being named to the 2nd Team announced by the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) office Thursday.
