Poet grab first place in Whittier Invitational

WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College golf team who has improved their national ranking to No. 35 in Div. III took home first place honors in their Whittier Invitational yesterday afternoon with an overall score of a 293.

The Invitational took place at the California Country Club and it involved Cal Lutheran, Occidental, and Pomona-Pitzer.

Cal Lutheran took home 2nd Place with a score of 306, while Occidental (316) and Pomona Pitzer (328) finished 3rd and 4th, each respectively.

Greg Garcia led the way for the Poets shooting a 72, while Doug Kennedy and Matt Liotta-Butterworth each finished with 73's.

Ryan Kitabayashi finished fourth on the Poet squad with a 78, while Ricky Macias and Andrew Moreno-Hunt finished five and six.  On the day Whittier shot par which was a 72. 

The Poets look to get back on the course as they travel back out to Riverside, Calif. on Sunday, April 15 beginning at 12pm where they will take part in the SCIAC No. 5 event hosted by Redlands University taking place at Tukwet.
