CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif. – Junior transfer Nicholas Medeiros (Riverside, Calif.) led the Whittier College Men's Golf team at the Dr. J Invitational sponsored by Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Whittier was one of six programs to take part in the invite joining a tough Division I and II field of UC San Diego, Sonoma State, Stanislaus State, CSU San Bernardino, and CSU Dominguez Hills.
The Poets finished 6th overall with a three round total of 1052 (343-355-354).
The newly acquired junior college addition from Mt. San Jacinto made an impact for the Poets at Industry Hills Golf Club posting three rounds in the mid 70's to lead WC finishing in a tie for 14th overall. After day one he sat in 11th after a 73-76 but would wind up dropping three spots following a third round 75.
Freshman Brett Roenick (Del Mar, Calif.) was the Poets second finisher. After an 81 in his first collegiate round would settle down soon after with scores of 77-78 to finish in 27th.
Alex Valadez (Anaheim, Calif.), another junior college transfer from Santiago Canyon was not far off finishing 31st. He posted an 85 on his first round but like Roenick would come back strong over the final two with an 81-82.
Whittier wraps up their non-traditional season next week as they take part in a head-to-head match-up with Chapman University on Wednesday, October 11 at Tustin Ranch Golf Club.
