Men’s Golf gets off to slow start at SCIAC No. 2

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Over the weekend, the Whittier College men's golf team competed at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) No. 2 tournament hosted by La Verne at the Oak Quarry Golf Course where the Poets improved on day two to finish eighth with a team total of 625.

Playing the 7002 yard, par-72 course each day, the Purple and Gold took scores towards the team tally from all golfers. The first round saw WC score a 322 before improving 19 strokes to a 303 in the second round.

Leading the way for Whittier over the 36-holes was Tyler Bliss (Glendora, Calif.) who shot a team-low 72 on Sunday, which helped rebound him from his 81 the day prior.  He combined for a 153, which placed him in a tie for 15th.

Max Meisenheimer (Newport Beach, Calif.) wasn't far off remaining consistent over the two days with a 77-77 (154) for 19th.

Poet No. 1 Nicholas Medeiros (Riverside, Calif.) faced a tough tournament and posted his first 80-over round on the season as he shot 82 on day one but was able to come back nicely on the second to score a 77, which put him in a tie for 31st.

Alex Valadez (Anaheim, Calif.) was one of those ties going 82-77 over the two days, while Tyler Hoefferle (San Dimas, Calif.) rounded out the scorers with an 85-81 despite facing injury.

Host La Verne was the top team finisher with a 593 (+17) after shooting an even par 288 in the opening round. Individually, Dylan Merchant from Redlands paced the field with an even 144, including a two-under 70 on Sunday.
