WHITTIER, Calif. – Whittier College Men's Head Golf Coach Jason Nunez was just announced as the new Director of Golf according to Executive Director of Athletics Robert Coleman.
"I am pleased to announce that Jason Nunez will be our new Director of Golf," Coleman stated. "He has grown quite a bit over the past two years as our Head Men's Golf coach. He has a great passion for the game and we look forward to continuing the elevation of both our men's and women's golf programs and building off their recent successes."
Nunez, who has led the Men's team for the past two seasons, joined the Purple & Gold back in 2015 after a four year stint as an Assistant Golf Professional at Candlewood Country Club.
He spent 2010 and 2011 caddying for several LPGA and Symetra tour players, received the certification of Level 2 Professional from TrackMan Golf and earned his Level 1 Certification in Golf Biomechanics from Dr. Kwon of Texas Women University.
Joining his staff will be Paul Gomez who will take over as the Head Women's Golf Coach and Doo Kang who will be the assistant coach on both sides.
Gomez, a graduate of the University of La Verne '14 competed at the Division III National Championships in 2013 and 2014 for the Leopards and before that played a season at Cypress College where he was named MVP and the Conference Champion.
Kang, who was born in Korea, moved to the states when he was six and picked up the game when he was 14. After graduating high school, he then traveled across the country and overseas to various countries in Asia to play professionally. Over his teaching career he has coached at South Torrance and Malibu High Schools and worked in sales and custom club fitting for "Plaza Golf".
