Men’s Golf faces tough test at ERAU Co-Ed Invitational

PRESCOTT, AZ – The Whittier College Men's Golf team took part in the ERAU Co-Ed Invitational earlier this week and faced tough conditions across the three rounds as they finished 7th overall with a 937.

Over the two-day event Whittier shot 313-310-314.  Ottawa University (AZ) won the Invite shooting an 852 (283-282-287) and was followed by Claremont-M-S 859 (293-279-287), Redlands 881 (298-290-293), Arizona Christian University 892 (296-298-298), Benedictine University (Mesa) 906 (299-301-306), and Embry-Riddle (AZ) 914 (303-298-313).

The Invitational occurred at Antelope Hills North Course with 36 holes occurring on day one in tough windy, rainy conditions. 

Freshman Roman Aragon (La Palma, Calif.) made a big push on the final round but was solid throughout finishing 26th overall posting scores of 76-78-73.  He leap-frogged junior transfer Vincent Brunet (Orleans, Canada) by a stroke who led the Poets over the first two rounds with a 74-74 but dropped due to an 80 on the final 18. 

Freshman Justin McGrath (San Diego, Calif.) was the third Poet finisher and despite facing a minor injury was able to fight through with a 79-82-75 placing him in a tie for 36th.  Sophomore Tiger Fawaz (San Bernardino, Calif.) wasn't far off in 42nd.  He had an 84-86 on the first and final rounds but managed to squeeze in a 77.

Freshman Brandon Folke (Sherman Oaks, Calif.) rounded out the scoring finishing 44th in his first collegiate tournament and went 88-81-93. 

Whittier has wrapped up their Fall season and will open up in the Spring on Friday, February 15 at the Poet Challenge taking place at Industry Hills Golf Club.
