Men's Lacrosse Wins Home Opener, Gerbarg '07 Leads Poets with Six Points

Dave Gerbarg '07 scored five goals and assisted on another to lead Whittier College to a 18-12 victory over Elmira College (NY) at Memorial Stadium on February 21. 

Anthony Lackey '09 scored four goals and was credited with an assist for the Poets.  Chuck Wagner '08 and Tyler Maguire '10 each had a hat trick.  Kevin McCarroll '08 finished with a goal and two assists.  Dan Aas '07 and Mike Prickett '07 each added a goal.  Ben Brown '09 made nine saves in goal.

The Poets took a 3-2 lead in the first quarter thanks to a pair of goals from Lackey.  Whittier scored twice more in a matter of thirty seconds to start the second quarter.  They led at the break by a score of 9-7.  Maguire scored a pair of goals in the third period as the Poets expanded their lead to 12-9 after three quarters.  Gerbarg took control of the game in the final stanza, scoring four goals himself while Elmira was only able to score three in the final quarter. 

The Poets took 35 shots in the game, while Elmira shot 27 times.  Whittier also won the ground ball battle, 18-12.
