Men's LAX Continues to Roll

Twelve Poets scored goals as Whittier College men's lacrosse
stayed perfect with a 27-0 win over NCAA Division II Grand Canyon
University on February 23. The 27 goals are the most a Poets
team has scored since 2002 and it gives them their best start to a
season (3-0) in three years.
Matt Mulry '09 scored a team-high six goals and was credited with
two assists. Kevin McCarroll '08 scored four times and
Christian Wright '10 finished with three goals and two
assists. Ben Barchey '09 and Anthony Lackey '09 each had
seven points with two goals and five helpers. Alex Chaudry
'08 scored two goals and assisted on another. Colt Adams '11
had a goal and two assists. A pair of defenders, Riley Myrick
'11 and Ryan Kirkpatrick '11, got in on the scoring action with a
goal apiece.
As the score would indicate, the Poets dominated the game.
They won the groundball battle 56-11, led by Chaudry, Wright and
Connor Schryver '09 with three apiece. Whittier took 56 shots
in the game, including 19 in the 11-goal third quarter. Grand
Canyon took just seven shots in the game, forcing three saves from
Poets goalie Brad Sollenberger '08. The Poets controlled the
face-off "X" with the combination of Corey Schab '10, Sean
McCarroll '11 and Austin Atwell '08 winning 12-for-16
face-offs.
The Poets take on Loyola Marymount (Club) on February 27. The
game is on Chief Newman Field at Memorial Stadium at 5:00pm.
