Men's LAX Takes Care of Loyola

Chuck Wagner '08 scored four goals to lead Whittier College to a 13-6 over Loyola Marymount (Club) on the Graham Lacrosse Field on February 27.  The Poets have won all four games they have played this season, and are still 2-0 in NCAA contests.

Wagner scored on four of the six shots he took.  Anthony Lackey '09 continued to make a smooth transition to midfield with a pair of goals and three assists.  Alex Chaudry '08 finished with two goals and an assist.  Christian Wright '10 also netted a pair of goals.  Matt Mulry '09, Sean McCarroll '11 and Colt Adams '11 each scored once.  Ben Barchey '09 added an assist.  Ben Brown '09 made five saves in goal.

Whittier jumped out to an early lead, scoring three times in the first five minutes of the game.  The Poet offense stalled after that, however, and held a 3-1 lead after one and a 4-3 lead at the halftime break.

Loyola came out of the locker room with a man-up goal 18 seconds into the third quarter to tie the score.  It was a wake-up call for the Whittier offense, and they responded with five straight goals.  LMU added one more in the closing seconds of the third to make the score 9-5 going into the last quarter.

Wright scored a pair of goals to start the fourth and increase the Poet lead to six.  Adams followed that with his only goal of the game and Whittier didn't look back.  The Poet defense held LMU to just one fourth quarter goal on their way to the 13-6 victory.

The Poets dominated the groundball battle, 22-11 and out shot LMU 39-19.  Kevin McCarroll '08 led the Poets with five groundballs.  Mulry, Connor Schryver '09 and Todd Drotleff '08 each picked up three.

The Poets play the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps club team on March 2.  The SoCal rivalry is scheduled to begin on the Graham Lacrosse Field at 1:00pm.
