Former Poet, Lackey, selected by Toronto in NLL Draft

WHITTIER, Calif. - The National Lacrosse League (NLL) held its 2009 draft on Wednesday, September 9, and former Whittier College standout Anthony Lackey was selected with the 43rd overall pick, second of the fifth round, by the Toronto Rock.

Lackey led the Poets in assists in 2009 with 24 and ranked second on the team with 21 goals. His 45 combined points was tops on the team and his 26 ground balls ranked fourth.

Originally from Orangeville, Ontario, Canada, Lackey was one of three players selected by the Rock that hailed from Orangeville.

The Rock finished last season 6-10 and in sixth place in the NLL East Division.

The top two picks in the draft went to Rochester who selected Sid Smith of Syracuse University and Ilija Gajic of Denver University. The Rock's top pick was Garrett Billings of the University of Virginia.

Toronto plays its home games in the Air Canada Centre.
