WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College men's lacrosse team after coming off a very successful trip to Texas two weekends ago again impressed on their home turf as they cruised to the 15-2 victory over Gordon College.
Whittier remains unbeaten on the season at 3-0, while Gordon drops to 1-3.
Gordon opened up the scoring with a quick goal at the 9:36 mark in the first quarter but never saw the lead after that as Whittier rattled off back to back to back goals from Daniel McQuade on a man up situation followed right behind by Tommy Andrews and Hunter Hall.
Opening up play in the second Whittier continued to keep their foot on the gas pedal as they continued to find the back of the net scoring five unanswered while holding their opponent to seven shots in the second quarter extending their lead to 8-1 going into the break.
But Whittier wasn't done there as they came out from the half to again outscore their opponent 4-1 in the third quarter moving the score to 12-2. In the final stanza Whittier again held Gordon scoreless on just five shots and scored three themselves from Kevin Looney, Hall, and McQuade and this proved to be the dagger as the Poets cruised to the 15-2 victory.
Whittier outshot Gordon 49-23, but saw the difference in the game in faceoffs won as the Poets finished 12-21 getting help from Chad Kelsey who played a major role in Whittier starting off with the ball. This proved to be the difference late in the game as the time of possession was controlled by the Purple & Gold.
The Poets were led by Hall who finished with five goals on 11 shots six of them on goal, while Looney and McQuade finished with three goals apiece.
Senior Robert Bazlen started in goal and improves his win-loss record to 3-0 after recording eight saves, while Jon Cairone came in early in the fourth making two saves before giving way to sophomore Nathan Kleponis.
The Purple & Gold look continue their home stand as they now turn their sights on Babson set for next Tuesday, March 20 with a 4:00pm start time.
