"In 1989 the USILA Scholar All-America Program was established to recognize student-athletes from USILA member institutions who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically and as citizens of their communities. The USILA Selection Committee selects an overall team representing Division I, II and III. The Scholar All-Americas are recognized at the annual Lacrosse All-America Banquet."

Russell not only led the Poets on the field as one of three captains but was a leader off the field finishing with a 3.2 cumulative GPA graduating with a degree in Business Administration.

This season he combined for 39 points including 15 goals and 24 assists and collected 22 ground balls as a formidable two-way midfielder.

Russell not only did well at Whittier but well abroad creating his own company called LACROSSETHEPOND, which consists of a group of individuals and lacrosse enthusiasts, who have come together to make a difference to the sport they love. The young men who enroll in this Master's program in the UK benefit from a wide range of skills and experiences that, when integrated, enable them to provide a comprehensive service of the highest quality. As a result they are able to make the LTP program a positive and life affirming experience for all those who join it.

Russell is the founder and the UK President of this company and it includes current and past international lacrosse players, experienced coaches, college lecturers and business men so that all aspects of the LTP program are effectively and professionally managed.  The goal of this program is to expand lacrosse overseas aimed to bring college seniors to the U.K. to obtain a Masters Degree and play one more year of collegiate lacrosse.
