KENOSHA, WI – The Whittier College men's lacrosse team wrapped up their trip to Illinois Sunday as they held off the Red Men of Carthage College 14-9 at Art Keller Field to improve to 7-3 on the season.

Whittier went in front 2-0 early in the first quarter thanks to Hunter Hall (Littleton, CO).  The Red Men would answer with back to back goals over the next eight minutes to tie the game up but Foster Cunningham (San Anselmo, Calif.) would find the back of the goal at the 2:31 mark to put the Poets in front 3-2.

The Poets and Red Men swapped goals to open the second frame until WC would extend the lead back to two with an unassisted goal from Tommy Andrews (Tustin, Calif.).  Carthage would capitalize on a man-up situation to again pull within one but with :31 seconds remaining in the half, Cunningham would add his second of the period to move the score to 6-4.

Opening up the third, Whittier would use two unanswered from Matt Symes (Coquitlam, BC, Canada), and Maxwell Jones (Fircrest, WA) to go ahead by four but on the ensuing faceoff, Scott Pescheret (Eagan, MN) would turn it over sparking a 3-0 run by Carthage that pulled them within one 8-7.

Jonathan Kassity (San Clemente, Calif.) would stop the Red Men run with a man-up goal minutes later and would add his second of the contest with 13:20 to play in the fourth quarter that moved the lead back to three before another Carthage run would cut the deficit to one once again.

But in the final 10:12 Whittier would put the finishing touches on their last game of their trip adding four straight from Hall, Symes, Pescheret, and Kassity that put the game out of reach.

Hall and Kassity each had three goals with Jones, Symes, and Cunningham each adding two.  Nathan Kleponis (Tustin, Calif.) played all sixty minutes collecting five saves.

Whittier returns home for two games against club teams Concordia (Saturday, April 19 @ 2:00pm) and Chapman University (Wednesday, April 23 @ 7:00pm).
