COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – The Whittier College Men's Lacrosse team opened up their trip to Colorado Springs, CO over the weekend with a quick 17-7 win over Southwestern University.

The previous time these two teams met the Poets held on for the 11-10 win.  The Purple & Gold improve to 7-4 and have now won their third straight.

A 10 goal effort in the first half put the game out of reach for the Pirates.  Whittier outscored SU 10-5 and continued to roll adding another seven in the second en route to the lopsided victory.

Southwestern added the first goal of the game but that would be the only lead they would hold as Nate Heritage (Bellingham, WA), Chris Burley (San Diego, Calif.) and Evan Price (San Diego, Calif.) would go back-to-back-to-back to move the score to 3-1.

The Pirates' Matthew Montagne would stop the run at the 5:15 mark but over the final 4:29 the Poets out tack on another two from Price and Nick Hernandez (La Mesa, Calif.).

In the second quarter it got worse for the Pirates as Nick Angileri (San Jose, Calif.), Burley and Price would open the game up with a trio of connections.  Then over the final 6:37, Heritage and Ashton Pieris (Burien, WA) would add another two that made the deficit for SU 10-5.

The third quarter was low scoring but WC managed to still outscore the Pirates 2-1 with tallies from Price and Jackson Draper (Steamboat Springs, CO).  This kept the deficit in half before a big five goal spurt in the fourth put the game out of reach.  During the run Heritage added a pair and was joined by Burley, Price and Angileri.

Alex Cramer (Rocky Hill, CT) picked up the win finishing with five saves against 11 shots.  Whittier outshot the Pirates 43-33 and was 14-27 on faceoffs.  They also added 29 groundballs, was 20-22 on clear attempts and a perfect 3-3 on man-up opportunities.
