Men's Soccer Loses SCIAC Opener, Poets now 0-2 in SCIAC

The Whittier College men's soccer team lost their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opening game 5-0 against the University of La Verne on September 16.  The Poets fall to 2-2, 0-1in the SCIAC,  while La Verne is now 3-3, 1-0 in SCIAC play.

Cody Sowa '10 made five saves in goal.  The Poets were out shot 20-11 in the game and La Verne also held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.  The Leopards began the scoring less than a minute into the game.  They added goals in the 24th and 43rd minutes to take a 3-0 lead at halftime.  In the second half, they scored twice in five minutes, the last one coming on a breakaway goal in the 75th minute.

The Poets continue their SCIAC schedule at home on September 20 against Cal Lutheran.  Game time is 4pm.
