Men's Soccer Loses to Caltech, Poets Still Winless in SCIAC

Paul Emack '09 scored his first goal this season, but Whittier College lost 2-1 to the California Institute of Technology in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on September 30. 

Cody Sowa '10 made four saves in goal for the Poets.  Whittier (2-6, 0-5 SCIAC) out shot Caltech (1-8, 1-4 SCIAC) 19-8 and held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.  Emack got the scoring started in the 35th minute with Kody Seminara '08 getting the assist.  Caltech scored evened the score just six minutes later to go into halftime 1-1.

The Poets controlled play for much of the second half.  They took eleven shots to the Beavers' two.   However, it was Caltech that broke the tie in the 62nd minute.  The Poets had opportunities to even the score late in the game, but were unable to find the back of the net.
