Men's Soccer Loses Season Finale, Poets Finish 7th in SCIAC

Kody Seminara '08 scored a second half goal, but Whittier College lost 3-2 to Occidental College in their last game this season on November 1.  The Poets finish their season 3-16 overall and 1-13 in the SCIAC.

Joe McFarlin '07 scored a goal and Ben Stockler '07 and Joey Gelaro '10 were credited with assists for the Poets.  Dan Roe '08 made five saves in goal.  Statistically, the game was very even with the shots in favor of the Tigers, 13-12, and corner kicks even at five apiece.

The Tigers started the scoring in the 38th minute.  They would add another in the first half on a penalty kick in the 41st minute to take a 2-0 lead at halftime.  The Poets fought back in the second half, when a McFarlin header found the back of the net just two minutes into the half to cut the lead to one.  Occidental extended their lead again in the 51st minute.  Whittier got within one goal again, this time on a goal by Seminara from a Stockler corner kick.  That was as close as the Poets would get, however, and the score would remain 3-2 as the final whistle sounded.

The Poets also said goodbye to their seniors, McFarlin, Stockler, Drake Townes-Witzel, Reggie El Bassiouni and Jon Lee, at the game.
