Men's Soccer Shut Out in Conference Opener

Whittier College men's soccer opened their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule on the road against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on September 12.  The Poets lost by a score of 8-0, giving them a 0-4 overall record this season.

Claremont started the scoring early, as they were on the scoreboard in the 3rd minute, thanks to Max Lipset's first of three goals on the day.  He scored the Stags' second goal in the 16th minute.  One minute later, Steve Farenbaugh netted their third goal off a corner kick.  Lipset completed his hat trick in the 22nd minute.  The Stags added two more goals in the 37th and 38th minutes to take a 6-0 lead at halftime.

The Poets improved their play in the second half, but were unable to break through on the scoreboard.  They allowed two more Claremont goals from Brandon Racine and Jake Feldman in the 60th and 77th minutes, respectively.  The Stags out shot Whittier 21-2 in the game.  They were also awarded eight corner kicks, scoring on one.

The Poets travel to SCIAC rival California Lutheran University for their next contest on September 15.  The 11am game kicks off a men's and women's doubleheader.
