Men's Soccer Picks Up First Win, Defeats Caltech 2-1

Whittier College men's soccer came back from a goal down to pick up their first win of the season against conference rival California Institute of Technology 2-1 on September 26.  The win improves the Poets' record to 1-6-1 overall and 1-3-1 in SCIAC play.

The Poets fell behind midway through the first half when Caltech's Yezdan Badrakhan found the back of the net in the 22nd minute.  It didn't take long for the Poets to answer; Kody Seminara '08 scored in the 31st minute to tie the game.  The Poets took eight of their sixteen shots in the first half, compared to Caltech's six.

In the second half, the Poets found their tie-breaker when Rhye-Samuel Kanassatega '11 assisted Julien Sperling '11 on his first goal of the season.  It came in the 66th minute and proved to be the game-winner.  Whittier goalkeeper Paul Stepler-Camp '10 made three saves.

The Poets look to continue their winning ways on September 29 at the University of La Verne.  The SCIAC game will begin at 11am.
