Men's Soccer on Losing End of Tough Battle with CMS

Whittier College squared off against SCIAC rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at Donald E. Graham Soccer Field on October 25.  The teams combined for three goals in the first 20 minutes of the second half as the Stags edged out the 2-1 victory.

It was a physical battle throughout the contest.  The Poets struck first in the 50th minute when midfielder Simon Ghebru '08 sent a perfect through-ball to the foot of Nnadozie Nwkaeboie '09, who beat a defender and bounced a shot off the opposite post and into the net.  Their lead did not last long; Claremont answered just over four minutes later with a goal from Devin Graber.  The game-winner came in the 63rd minute from the Stags' Toby Stopper, who put in the rebound of a shot that was initially saved by Whittier goalkeeper, Paul Stepler-Camp '10.  Whittier fought hard to come back with a number of scoring opportunities, but couldn't find the equalizer.  Stepler-Camp kept the Poets in the game with four of his six saves coming in the second half.

The Poets have just two more games in the regular season.  October 27 brings the Occidental College Tigers to town for a Homecoming showdown at 11am.  Whittier will make up a postponed game with La Verne on October 29 at 7pm.
