Men's Soccer Shut Out by Claremont

Whittier College Men's Soccer continued play in the Southern
California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference on September 20 at
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The Poets were shut out 3-0 by the Stags,
dropping their record to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in conference
play.
Three Poets starters were sidelined due to injury in the
contest. Their offense struggled as a result, mustering only
three shots. Claremont (2-3-1, 2-0) however, peppered the
Whittier goal with 25 shots. Paul Stepler-Camp '11 got the
start in goal for the Poets and made five saves.
The teams played to a scoreless tie at the halftime break. It
wasn't until the 54th minute that Claremont found its
way onto the scoreboard. Mitchell Skotarczyk placed a header
past Stepler-Camp to give the Stags all the offense they would
need. Ryan Weaver and Ian Anderson tacked on goals in the
63rd and 79th minutes, respectively.
Both goals came on corner kicks; the Stags earned 12 corners in the
game.
The Poets look to break their four-game losing skid against SCIAC
rival Cal Lutheran on September 24. The teams clash in
Thousand Oaks, Calif., at 4:00pm.
