LOS ANGELES, Calif. – It has been back-to-back games for the Whittier College Men's Soccer team being held scoreless as they fell 2-0 on the road to Occidental College.

Whittier has now dropped three in a row and move to 1-3, 0-2 SCIAC, while Oxy remains undefeated at 5-0, 3-0 SCIAC.

The Purple & Gold defensive unit stood strong a majority of the first half limiting the Tigers to just two shots over the first 32:00 minutes.  But soon after Oxy was able to break through as Nate Dunning worked his way up the right side in the 34th minute before making a touch to his right foot and finishing back post beating keeper Teddy Nickerson (Seattle, WA).

WC had a look for the equalizer soon after earning a corner kick with six minutes to play in the half.  Matt Slee (Bothell, WA) put in a nice ball back post finding the head of Scott Clark (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) but Tiger keeper Scott Drazan was able to come away with the save keeping the game at a one goal differential at the break.

Oxy continued to pressure in the second half adding another 11 shots and tacked on an insurance goal in the 63rd minute coming on a fortunate bounce where Ethan Glass was able to find Liam Walsh on a cross for the goal.

The best opportunity for the Poets in the second half came with three minutes to play when freshman Nicolas Barrera (Buffalo, Calif.) headed a ball off the crossbar following a corner kick.

Nickerson played all 90:00 minutes between the posts finishing with three saves.  Whittier had seven shots on the game with two coming from Clark and held the edge on corner kicks with six.

After back to back road contests the Poets return home this week for two games.  The first will be this Wednesday, September 12 when they host Caltech (7:00pm) and then Saturday, September 15 against the Uni. of La Verne (7:00pm).
