Paul first met the players one week before their first game and together with his coaching staff worked hard to put a team together in such a short space of time. The players on the roster worked extremely hard and came together as a team as a result of their hard work and excellent attitudes. The team was competitive in every game except for two. They had notable performances against Pomona-Pitzer Colleges beating them away from home (for the first time since 1995) and tying 2-2 at home after a double overtime. Against University of Redlands (Conference Champions for the last 7 years) Whittier held them to 0-0 at half time and then lost 1-0 to a goal from a set play. Away at Redlands, Whittier held them 1-1 at half time and then lost three quick goals. . In each and every game Whittier was either tied or down by a single goal for the majority of the game. The team lost 7 games by a single goal The main disadvantage that the team had over their opposition was the lack of depth on their roster. The team had a roster of only 18 players and only used 13-14 players each game. The starting line up was made up of 7 players in their first year of college soccer alongside two seniors and two sophomores. The current roster of players are looking forward to the 2008 season. They will be more experienced, fitter and looking forward to playing alongside the crop of new quality players that will be joining the roster from the 2008 recruiting class. Paul Walmsley has been involved in soccer for 32 years as a player, player coach, head coach and referee. He obtained the USSF A License in 2000, the English FA Coaching Certificate in 1994 and the Scottish Team Mangers Certificate in 1990. Paul has coached at the Preston North End (English Championship team) Soccer School, the Lancashire FA Center of Excellence, the Squaw Valley Soccer Camp, UK International Soccer Camps and Challenger British Soccer Camps. Paul has worked alongside coaches from Blackburn Rovers and Preston North End and has attended clinics with coaches from Inter Milan, Ajax, Barcelona, Liverpool, Everton and Newcastle Utd. Paul formed his own soccer business in 1997, the Soccer Center of Excellence and trained thousands of youth and adults over the years. He ran his own indoor and outdoor soccer leagues with up to 140 teams playing each week. Paul also owned a retail soccer store and two fitness facilities. Paul has refereed well over 1000 soccer games both indoors and outdoors. As a player Paul signed semi professional forms at the age of 16 years old, he had trials with Liverpool, Blackburn Rovers, Preston North End, Oldham Athletic and Blackpool FC.
