Poets stay put on Day 2 of SCIAC Championships

SOUTH GATE, Calif. – The Whittier College men's and women's swimming & diving teams remain put on Day 2 of the SCIAC Championships as they remain in 6th place.
Claremont-M-S remains atop the men's standings behind a photo finish in the 200 medley, the first of several exciting finishes on the day. On the women's side, the Athena's of Claremont-M-S have a comfortable lead with a 750-421 lead over Redlands.
The Poets men's team remains in 6th place with a score of 208, while the women drop a spot to 6th with an overall score of 218.
In the women's 400 IM Erin Bartholomew again had a strong finish finishing in third with a time of 4:39.36, tenths of a second behind second place finisher Haley Thiltgen (Redlands) who finished with a time of 4:39.08.
In the women's 200 medley, the team of Evelyn Beguiristain, Mattie Winkler, Haley Von Schottenstein, and Carsen West missed placing as they finished 5th with a time of 1:52.08.
In the 100 fly, Von Schottenstein finished 5th with a time of 59.10, while on the men's side Chris Evans finished 6th in the 100 back with a time of 51.93 to lead the Purple & Gold on Day 2.
The third day of the SCIAC Swimming Championships takes place tomorrow, with events including the 1650-yard freestyle, the 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard races in the butterfly, breaststroke and backstroke, and the finale of the championships, the 400-yard freestyle relay.
