Poets fall on the road to Redlands

REDLANDS, Calif. –    The Whittier College Men's Swimming & Diving team fell to the Kingsmen of Cal Lutheran University on Saturday, 183-52 but welcomed back Senior Robert Kaaret (Highland Park, IL).

The Poets would start out with the 400 Medley "A" Relay team of Will Ansparger (Long Beach, Calif.), Adonnis Rivera (Lynwood, Calif.), Colin-James Fellezs (Mililani, HI) and Devin Gaude (Lakewood, Calif.) touching 4th at a 3:51.32.

Arnsparger would tackle the 1650 Free alone, touching 5th at an 18:43.51. Anders Blomso (Shoreline, WA) would also go on to earn 5th in both the 200 Free (1:57.34) and the 500 Free (5:21.87) where he followed behind Gaude in 3rd (5:10.25).

Rounding off the Freestyle events, Aidan Tol (Tustin, Calif.) would earn 2nd in the 50 Free at 22.18 and 4th in the 100 Free at 49.97. Joining Tol in the 50, Gianluca Bencomo (San Jose, Calif.) would finish 3rd at a 22.39. In the 100, Michael Laws (Anacortes, WA) would earn big points coming in 2nd at a 49.27.

Laws would also finish in 2nd in the 200 IM at a 2:01.74, just being out touched by Fellezs with a 2:01.73. Fellezs would score some more points for the Purple & Gold in the 200 Fly where he finished 3rd (2:01.67) ahead of Gaude in 5th (2:11.11).

Wrapping up the scoring for the day, Arnsparger would earn 2nd in the 200 Back with a 2:06.49 and First-Year Quinn LaCoursiere (Delray Beach, FL) would also finish 2nd in the 200 Breast. The 200 Free Relay of Bencomo, LaCoursiere, Tol, and Laws would come in 3rd in the last event at a 1:29.70. 

Whittier will send off their seniors this Saturday, February 10th with their last home meet of the season. Diving starts at 10:30 AM with senior recognition to follow.
