Men's Tennis Drops Three Over the Weekend

The Poets Men's Tennis team came up short in three physically
taxing matches within a twenty-four hour time span on February 15
and 16.
The first match took place February 15 at home versus SCIAC rival
University of La Verne. Despite being in a commanding position in
singles, the Poets failed to close the door on the
Leopards. Individual victories were gained by Ryan Johnson
‘11 and Denis Mianev ‘11 at five and six singles,
respectively. The two also teamed up to score a point at number
three singles.
SCIAC play resumed the following Saturday morning in Claremont,
Calif., versus the nationally ranked Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens. The
Poets fell 8-1 with the lone win coming by Johnson at #6
singles.
The Poets returned home to play Baruch College in a late afternoon
match. "Perhaps the heavily scheduled weekend was a mistake,"
admitted Coach Bojalad. "We were pretty banged up going into our
last match." Ryan Johnson had to default at five singles and Denis
Minaev sat due to injury. The Poets were also unable to close
similar to their match the previous day against the Leopards,
falling to Baruch 5-4
"Let's just hope we are not starting a trend," said Bojalad as the
Poets prepare for their next match on February 22. They
travel to Riverside, Calif., to take on La Sierra University at
2:00pm.
