Poets Score Big Win Over Wabash College

The Whittier College men's tennis team came away with their best
win of the season on March 6.. They defeated Wabash College 6-3,
the same score that #26-ranked Pomona-Pitzer beat them just two
days ago.
The Poets won two of three doubles' points with Lance Franey '09
and Ted Wyatt ‘11 winning at #2 8-5, then at #3 Ryan Johnson
and Denis Minaev winning a tight 9-7 set.
The Poets kept their foot on the gas pedal and did not let up as
they took four out of their six singles matches. Justin DeLong
‘10, the 2007 Whittier Male Freshman of the Year, used a
combination of big serving and pinpoint passing shots to score a
6-4, 6-3 straight set win. Franey, on his birthday, in addition to
his doubles win, put on a dominant display at #4 singles winning
6-0, 6-1. Number five and six players Minaev and Johnson continued
with their winning ways at the bottom of the line-up with
respective 6-1, 6-4 and 6-3, 6-0 victories.
"Coffee is for closers and today we earned it" exclaimed Coach
Bojalad, "We have been in many winning positions this year and have
let our opponents off the hook. It was great to see us put an end
that trend."
"The La Sierra win got us out of a rut, but this one will give us
confidence, which we will need against Skidmore and Colorado
College next week."
