Men's Tennis Loses to Tigers in Battle for Fifth

The Whittier College men's tennis team lost to Occidental College 7-2 on April 19 to conclude their best season in years. The team finished sixth in the conference and went 9-12 overall.

"We were hoping to steal this one, but did not play well enough to pull it off," says Coach Bojalad.

The player of the day was Justin DeLong ‘11 who won at #1 doubles and #2 singles. The victory against all-conference nominee Daniel Ikuta was perhaps the best win of his young college career.

"We accomplished what we set out to do this year, pass Caltech and La Verne and close the gap on Pomona-Pitzer, Cal Lu and Oxy. We are on pace to be a top 30 team a year from now."

The Poets will continue practice this week in preparation for the Ojai tournament played in Oxnard next weekend. The top Poet players with be playing both singles and doubles.
