Poets fall to Division II No. 11 FMU, 8-1

FLORENCE, S.C. - The Whittier College men's tennis team lost its first match in its last six outings on Tuesday afternoon as it fell to 3-1 on its spring break trip. Francis Marion University, the No. 11 ranked Division II team in the country, won two-of-three doubles matches and rolled to an 8-1 in.
The Poets (12-4) No. 2 doubles team of Patricio Carregha and Lance Franey trailed 7-6 but rallied to win three straight games and the match, 9-7.
Franey battled hard at No. 4 singles for the Poets but it wasn't enough as he lost 7-5, 6-4.
Freshman Frank Sun saw his undefeated streak end at No. 6 singles. Sun lost 6-2, 6-4 to fall to 14-1 on the year.
The purple and gold return home on Friday, April 3, as they resume conference play against SCIAC foe Caltech at 2 p.m.
