Poets shuffle lineup, roll past Lakeland 8-1


HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Whittier College men's tennis team shuffled its lineup on Sunday morning but the results remained the same as the Poets picked up their second win of their spring break trip with an 8-1 over Lakeland (Ill.) College.

The Poets (11-3) gave a rest to Sean Robertson and Frank Sun at singles which allowed Taylor Dimler and Gabriel Farias to earn a pair of wins.

Patricio Carregha was given a rest at No. 2 doubles as Lance Franey teamed with Jonathan Pollare to pick up an 8-3 win for the purple and gold. Denis Minaev teamed with Sun at No. 3 doubles to win 8-5 without losing a serve.

Gavin Smith moved to No. 4 singles and rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win while Franey won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

Dimler prevailed at No. 5 singles 6-2, 3-6, 3-6, and Farias rolled at No. 6 singles 6-4, 6-0.

The Poets are back in action tomorrow, March 30, as they face Franklin (Ind.) College at Noon.
