Men's Tennis releases 2010 schedule
WHITTIER, Calif. - One year after it completed its best season in program history the Whittier College men's tennis team will look to build off its successes in 2009 with a schedule that features 12 home and six away matches in 2010 as announced by head coach David Bojalad earlier today.
The Poets begin their season on the road against La Sierra and Biola on February 3 and 5, respectively, before they face Division II Grand Canyon at home on February 6.
The first conference match of the season is the following Saturday (February 13) on the road against No. 28 Pomona-Pitzer. The Sagehens are the first of eight teams the purple and gold will face that are ranked in the preseason Top 30.
The defending Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champions, No. 2 Claremont-M-S, comes to town on February 19 and the very next morning the Poets will play host to Occidental. Caltech is the final match before Whittier plays an eight-game home-stand that includes four Top 30 schools.
Wartburg will play the Poets on March 8 followed by No. 16 Texas-Tyler on March 12, Colorado College on March 13, Sewanee on March 14, No. 20 Skidmore on March 16, No. 29 Salisbury on March 17, No. 19 Trinity (Conn.) on March 20 and Wisconsin-Oshkosh on March 23.
The Poets round out the conference portion of their schedule on April 2 and April 3 against No. 27 Cal Lutheran and No. 9 Redlands before it plays D-II Cal Poly-Pomona on April 10.
The SCIAC champions are schedule for April 16 and 17 at Occidental and Ojai Tennis Championships are slated for April 23-25.
