David Bojalad is in his third season as head coach of the Poets men's tennis squad. Bojalad is no stranger to the SCIAC conference. He played four years at Occidental College and was the team captain and MVP in the 93-94 season, then returned to Occidental as the Head Men's tennis coach in '02. In just two years, Coach Bojalad led a 4-17 team to a top 30 Division III powerhouse, recruiting seven sectionally and nationally ranked junior tennis players. Previously, Bojalad was an assistant coach at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps from 2001-2002.

With a psychology major from Oxy and a master's degree in sport psychology from San Diego State University, Bojalad integrates a mental conditioning approach into his coaching philosophy along with a firm feel for the biomechanics and strategy for high level performance. He is a United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) level one professional and has nearly 10 years of coaching experience under his belt.

"Having competed and coached four years in SCIAC, I have developed a firm foundation to succeed at the top level of NCAA Division III tennis," he says. "I have a three-year plan to get Whittier into the top 25 in the country and with this school's reputation I believe this goal is reachable."

Bojalad lives in Pasadena and is the father of seven year old identical twin boys, Hunter and Harrison.
