Poets wrap up regular season at CSLA Last Chance Invitational

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Whittier College men's and women's track and field teams competed in their final meet of the regular season at the CSLA Last Chance Invitational but were unable to get any further qualifiers for the NCAA Championships.

Men

Kevin Curbelo led the Poet sprinters during the Invite placing 5th in the 400 with a time of 48.55, while Scott Margiotta and Jacob Arango both ran in the 10000m placing 3rd and 6th with times of 34:53.43 and 36:02.56, each respectively.  Brandon Wilcox once again did well in the shot put and hammer as he placed 4th and 5th with throws of 48' 8.75" and 156' 7".

Wilcox finishes his career at Whittier College as the SCIAC champion in shot put along with being named to the All-SCIAC team his first three years. He was also all conference this year in discus (2nd) and the hammer (4th).

Women

Eva Aguilar and Adriana Davidek ran well in the 3000SC to place 3rd and 4th with times of 11:54.89 and 12:05.61 to finish out their careers as Poets in impressive fashion.  Christine Verduzco, Aguilar, and Guadalupe Ulloa all ran well in the 10,000m finishing in 3rd, 4th and 5th each respectively.  Verduzco went 38:13.35, Eva 40:05.40, and Guadalupe 40:18.67. Alyssa Sialaris competed in shot put, hammer, and discus and did very well with a 2nd, 4th and 5th place finish. She threw 40' 3.5" in shot, 142' 10" (PR) in discus, and a 159' 7" in hammer.

The next meet will be the NCAA National Championships to be held at Claremont College on May 24-26. The Poets will be represented by Kimble Tiilman, Curbelo, and Sialaris.
